Body Composition Scan

A whole-body scan is a great way to establish your baseline health and fitness level. Follow up scans will measure your fat mass or lean muscle mass changes, over time, against the baseline test.

Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) scans provide a state-of-the-art way to assess body composition. This is achieved by performing a whole-body scan.

A whole-body scan will provide you with the following information:
  • Lean Muscle Mass
  • Fat Mass
  • Total Fat Mass Index (FMI), superior to Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Total Body % Fat
  • Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT) – this is the type of fat around internal organs that can be associated with medical disorders
  • A Whole-Body Bone Mineral Density (BMD) - this provides you with the total bone mass and BMD, however, it cannot provide a diagnosis of osteoporosis. The test for osteoporosis should follow World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines which apply to the hip, lumbar spine and forearm. Applying the WHO criterion to the whole-body BMD will underestimate the prevalence of osteoporosis
